here they stand

Here They Stand cover

The sea rages against the land, wreaking havoc on those who live on the coast.

In a tiny town on the edge of the world, about to tip off into the sea, lives begin and end.

A small child gazes out onto the vast plain trembling with waves, and thinks of his father, who left long ago according to the child’s memory.

For his mother,  love lasts far longer than the lingering memories of time. She remembers the exact moment her husband sailed away, and counts the hours to his return.

In the fall, a ship sails into the harbor, and that eve many hearts rejoice for the safe return of those they love.

The small boy and his parents stand above the tireless sea, and watch it beat upon the rocks.

The forest is alight with the trilling of birds,

And the soft melodies of the wilderness.

There is no danger in the shadows for me,

Nor any fear among the trees.

There is freedom in the forest,

Setting my restless heart at ease.

Whether it be clear and cool,

Or misty,

Or if the sun shines brightly, filtering down through the trees,

I am at home here.

Here is hope and freedom in an earth filled with chaos and strife;

A respite from the whirling world beyond the forest.

So much, and so little, happens under the cover of trees.

Adventure is found, fates changed, and beauty formed.

All safe and secret in the woods.
